The Singapore Chess Federation's 8th International Chess Festival 2011 kicked off today with the 8th Singapore FIDE Trainers' Seminar. Four official trainers' titles may be awarded: FIDE Trainer (FT), FIDE Instructor (FI), National Instructor (NI) or Developmental Instructor (DI), depending on coaches' resumes and examination results.

Training & FIDE certification are managed by FIDE Lecturer Jovan Petronic (FIDE Senior Trainer), who is ably assisted by Domingo Ramos (FIDE Trainer). IM Petronic was a 5x Yugoslavia National Olympic Chess Coach, while IM Ramos formerly served as National Chess Coach of Japan and was also the Asian Junior Chess Champion in 1980. Both are now serving under the Singapore Chess Federation, as Technical Director, and National Chess Trainer, respectively.

Represented are 11 nations and Chess Federations from 3 continents (Africa, Asia & Europe): China, Finland, India, Macau, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Portugal, Singapore, Uganda, and Vietnam.

1. GM Xu Jun (China)

17. Tam Silveirinha Gabriel (Grupo De Xadrez De Macau) (Portugal)
18. Tam Silveirinha Francisco (Grupo De Xadrez De Macau) (Portugal)

This year's high participation is largely due to the already well-established SCF's signature event, as well as the continuous need for official certification and licencing of chess coaches working in Singapore and worldwide, and also as recommended and required by the Singapore Sports Council in its guidelines to National Sports Associations.

An intensive 5-day 34-hr programme awaits all participants, ending with examination. Good luck to all!
