The second half of the Southeast Asian Games chess competition has begun in Palembang, Indonesia. Six gold medals are up for grabs in the Men's and Women's standard, rapid and blitz chess. In women's standard chess, top seed Irene Sukandar of Indonesia drew with WIM Nguyen Thi Mai Hung of Vietnam. This allowed WFM Jose Rulp Ylem of the Philippines to take the early lead, beating Isawan Srijomtong of Thailand. Five countries are represented in the women's round robin. In Men's Rapid, top seeds GM Le Quang Liem (2714) and GM Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son (2662), both of Vietnam, are tied at 2.5 points each with GM Oliver Barbosa (2571) of the Philippines. Twelve players are competing in the 9 rounsd Swiss. Most players drew in women's rapid chess when players from the same country were paired in the first round. WCM Nur Nabila of Malaysia, however, beat countrymate Tan Li Tung to lead with Myanmar's May Hsett Lwin who beat Taweesupmun Chanida of Thailand. The Men's and Women's blitz tournament is scheduled for the last day on 21st November. |
