Russia leads ETCC 2011 women section Print

After winning their match against Georgia, Russia emerged as the sole leader in the European Team Chess Championship – Women Section.

Nana Dzagnidze put her team ahead by defeating Nadezhda Kosintseva, but Alexandra Kosteniuk stroke back against Nazi Paikidze. The game on the 2nd board was drawn and eventually Natalija Pogonina bagged the victory by scoring on the 4th board.

After the two draws on the top boards, Poland won the remaining two games against France and moved into shared 2nd place with 8 match points.

Ukraine walked past Romania with full points from Natalia Zhukova and Anna Ushenina. Hungary – Serbia and Bulgaria – Greece exchanged victories and finally ended their matches 2:2. Lilit Mkrtchian saved Armenia against Slovenia and secured one match point for her team.

After this round Poland, Ukraine and Georgia are sharing the second place.
