Alexander Morozevich Wins Saratov Governor's Cup Print

alexander_morozevichThe Saratov Sports Ministry, the Saratov State Socio-Economic University are the regional chess federation have organized an outstanding round robin tournament from 8th to 19th October in Saratov, Russia.

The Saratov Governor’s Cup was 11 rounds all-play-all event with an impressive field. The region is honouring the members of Ekonomist Saratov, a very successful team which claimed the European Club Cup twice (2009 and 2010).

Alexander Morozevich continues to play in excellent shape after earning 43 elo points this summer and convincingly wins the tournament with 8.5/11, full point and a half ahead of the nearest follower.

With this success Moro bags another 25 elo points and establishes himself on the 9th place of the live rating list. His next competition will be the European Team Chess Championship in Greece.

Former European champion Evgeny Tomashevsky is clear second with 7 points. Nikita Vitiugov was forced to withdraw after nine rounds due to illness.
