Minor and major drama at First Saturday Budapest October tournaments. Print
Monday, 17 October 2011 13:49
Image3

Nobody could achieve any GM norms this month despite dramatic fight for it. IM Arnold Marc T. an eighteen  year old gentleman of New York was as close as one victory to GM norm before the last round but his fellow citizen Kislik Erik Andrew (USA) fought fiercely since he needs to reach 2400 for his IM title. Even with a piece up all attempts to win remained in vain. Marc brought up so accurate play that this bitter experience seems to be only a minor drama since his GM level is obvious. Achieving a draw Kislik performed his fourth IM norm besides gaining more rating points getting closer to his goals.

GM Szabo Krisztian (HUN) proved his talent and his brilliant tactical skills helped him survive some difficult positions so his success was well deserved.

IM Szeberenyi, Adam (HUN)

An experienced chess coach Atnilov Boris (ISR) reached the symbolic gold medal position in the higher rated FM-A section. He played so high quality chess that it seems reasonable for him to take part in the IM section next. Juracsik Jozsef (HUN) the most experienced practical player had thrilling games each time. Kantor Reka (SVK) shows constant progress month by month since she has FM Magyar Otto (HUN) as her coach.

Piece touched must be moved!

The most interesting and charming scenes that we may call major drama happened in the FM-B group. The winner of the group the 10 years old Csetneki Mark (HUN) touched a piece thoughtlessly and it cost a rook. He went on playing with tears rolling down his lovely childish face and soon there came a turning point. He won the rook back with an unexpected twin double attack check and time of contented smile arrived. Next game he lost a piece in an opening hand-battle and this time he went on playing without tears. After disciplined play mobilizing his central pawn-chain he won a rook that brought in the whole point and the first place.
