biel 2011 chessThe 44th Biel Chess Festival will take place from 18th to 29th July in Biel, Switzerland. The main event is the Accentus Grandmaster Tournament which will be a six-player double round robin.

Magnus Carlsen (NOR), Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (FRA), Alexei Shirov (ESP), Fabiano Caruana (ITA), Alexander Morozevich (RUS) and Yannick Pelletier (SUI) will participate.

Magnus Carlsen defeated with black the local representative Yannick Pelletier to take early lead in the event. Caruana - Vachier-Lagrave and Shirov - Morozevich finished draw. Each victory in Biel is counted for 3 points, according to the Bilbao system.

Master Tournament will be an 11-round open with the prize fund of CHF 43'000.

Currently top rated players are GM Boris Grachev RUS, GM Ivan Cheparinov BUL, GM Xiangzhi Bu CHN, GM Hua Ni CHN, GM Tigran Gharamian FRA, GM Christian Bauer FRA, GM Maxim Rodhstein ISR, GM Hrvoje Stevic CRO, GM Vladimir Baklan UKR, GM Anton Filippov UZB, GM Romain Edouard FRA, GM Ilya Nyzhnyk UKR, GM Sébastien Mazé FRA etc.

Main Tournament will be a 9-round open for the players rated under 2050 FIDE and with the prize fund of CHF 10'600.
