German players on top at First Saturday Budapest 2-13th April events Print

First_saturday_logo

There were 45 players at Budapest this month competing for title-norms and ratings. There is no need to introduce special rules at First Saturday events since the most ambitious players are gathering month by month showing up high level of fighting spirit regardless of the fact that there are no prizes on these events at all.

The GM section went on with average at 2410 so scoring 7 points of nine games would have meant a GM norm which proved too hard for anyone even to get close to it. Neither an IM norm was achieved since in the last round the most ambitious player, the winner of the event, GM Bindrich Falko (21, GER) defeated his fellow citizen Natsidis Cristoph who needed only a draw to reach the IM norm.

The IM section also brought the victory of a young German player. IM Hirneise Tobias showed up sharp tactical skills and achieved his goal of increasing his FIDE-Rating. 14 years old FM Oparin Grigoriy was accompanied and coached by GM Dolmatov Sergei and they proved again that the classical Russian chess school always guarantees high level. It was the fifth IM norm of the young talent and the IM title is now only a question of some more rating points.

Hirneise
IM Tobias Hirneise (GER), winner of the IM-group

Oparin
FM Grigoriy Oparin (RUS), 14 year, this time the 5th IM-norm

There were two more groups with 23 players playing not only for rating points but simply for loving chess and for having good games. The FM-A section brought success of the girls over men. Erdos Boglarka (HUN) silver medallist at the Hungarian U18 Girls Ch won the tournament but Xu Fei (CHN) won the most rating points. Sanders Isaac B (13, ENG) the youngest of the group and best foreign player of the group may also say that it is worth trying in Budapest. His strong ambition and his extraordinary ability of deep concentration helped him winning more than 33 points.

Boglarka
Erdős Boglárka /HUN/, winner of the FM-A section

Fei
Xu, Fei /CHN/ won 35 ELO points now
