HovhannisyanThe 71st Armenian Chess Championship took place from 18th to 29th January in Yerevan. Twelve players were engaged in the round robin tournament with the average elo of 2562. GM Avetik Grigoryan defended the last year's title.

The 19-years old GM Robert Hovhannisyan singled out on the top in the second half of the tournament and maintained the lead to eventually win the Championship full point clear ahead of another junior - GM Samvel Ter-Sahakyan. The champion will be invited to join the national team at the European Team Chess Championship in Creta Maris.
