Singaporean victory at First Saturday Budapest IM Tournament |
|
Thursday, 16 December 2010 07:25 |
The highest level group was the IM section this month and it brought a great surprise. 17 years old Tan Weiliang of Singapore topped all opponents despite his lowest rating in the group and missed the IM norm only by one point.
Tan Weiliang (SIN), winner of IM section and IO Nagy, Laszlo, organizer He always judged difficult positions correctly and that sobriety lifted him ahead of all rivals. He permanently took lessons from IM Karolyi Tibor who had been working in Singapore as a professional coach for several years. Another shining spot of the event was the youngest player of the group Tesik Csaba (15, HUN) whose success definitely reflects the excellent teaching of GM Sax Gyula former World Champion Candidate. Final of First Saturday IM 04-14th Dec 2010, Budapest, Hungary

The three FM sections provided great opportunity for amateur players and as always it again gave floor of clashes of different generations. The two lower rating groups was also a boys versus girls fight in which the girls overcame of all men. Both Horvath Ilona Klara (14, HUN) winner of the FM-B and Vujosevics Eszter (11, HUN) winning the FM-C group may have bright chess future.
Vujosevics Eszter, (11) winner or the FM.-C group. The oldest player Kelemen Lajos Dr. (85, HUN) showed good example for all the young to be followed. There was no compromise in his games but six victories to four losses deserving the admiration of all participants and spectators. The next First Saturday event is scheduled to: 5-16th February at Hotel Medosz Budapest that will be a new venue for the full 2011 year programme.
