The National University of Mexico (UNAM) is celebrating the 100-years anniversary with a strong chess festival. The main event of the Ajedrez UNAM festival is the Iberoamarican Championship that is being played 13 - 21st of November, 2010, in which 24 players from 23 countries participate.

Top seeded are Julio Granda Zuniga (2636, Peru), Eduardo Iturrizaga (2609, Venezuela), Gilberto Milos (2599, Brasil), Ruben Felgaer (2597, Argentina), Marc Narciso Dublan (2553, Spain), Juan Carlos Gonzalez Zamora (2564, Mexico), Paulo Jorge Guimaraes Dias (2482, Portugal), etc.

Grandmasters Eduardo Iturrizaga, Gilberto Milos, Ruben Felgaer and Marc Narciso Dublan won the four qualifying groups and advanced to the Semifinals.

On 19th, 20th, and 21th of November, the Cuadrangular Elite tournament will take place, with the participation of Veselin Topalov, Vassily Ivanchuk, Judith Polgar, and Manuel Leon Hoyos.
