The 16th Bora Kostic Memorial, honoring the first chess globetrotter, is taking place from 2nd to 12th November in Vrsac, the city of his birth.
Six players are competing in the double round robin tournament: Vasil Spasov (BUL 2606), Ivan Ivanisevic (SRB 2628), Aleksandar Kovacevic (SRB 2594), Vladislav Nevednichy (ROM 2547), Boban Bogosavljevic (SRB 2569) and Nikola Sedlak (SRB 2546).
Grandmasters Kovacevic and Nevednichy, team-mates from Novosadski chess club, are joint leaders after three rounds and are paired to meet each other in round four. Games are being played every day (except 6th November) from 16:00 CET, live broadcast is available on the
official website.
From Wikipedia: "From 1923–1926, (Grandmaster) Kostic traveled all over the world, including Australia, the Far East, Africa, India and Siberia, demonstrating his exceptional skills, generating interest in chess and forging new links with people across the globe. He was undoubtedly a brilliant publicist and ambassador for the game, although this probably prevented him from realizing his full potential as a player." A street in Belgrade's modern suburb Bezanijska Kosa is named after him.
