The Himalayan Grand Masters International Chess Tournament Print

Ultimately Nepal chess has entered in the international chess organisation by organising first ever Grand master Chess Tournament which started on September 8th. Most scientific composition of the tournament is showing the objects of organisers, to provide platform for Nepalese players to achieve norms.
In all 43 players, all rated, included 5 GMs, 6 IMs, 1WGM, 7 FMs and 1 WFM from 9 federation participating here. The results of the 1st round attracted local people and media person when IM Praveen Kumar of India lost his game against former national champion and veteran player of Nepal Punyaman Karmcharya. Apart from this upset, 4 more Nepalese players, all rated below 2100, hold the title players. The colourful event inaugurated by Mr.Rajesh Hari Joshi, President of Nepal Chess Association. Round 9 of well organised open Swiss tournament will be concluded on September 14th.
