The French National Championships are taking place from 9th to 21st August in Belfort. The men and National B Championship are 12-player round robin events. The young GM Romain Edouard is currently leading the main tournament with 5 points from six games, followed by the top seeded Grandmasters Etienne Bacrot and Laurent Fressinet.

The Women Championship is a six-player double round robin with the average elo of 2333. After the first half of the tournament, IM Almira Skripchenko is leading with four points, full point ahead of IM Sophie Milliet.
