The first Vaujany chess festival, replacing the 33 year old Val Thorens chess festival, was held from July 10th to July 18th in Vaujany, 50 kms south of Grenoble, in the french Alps. Its three tournaments gathered 126 players originating from 10 different countries: France (91), Hungary (11), Netherlands (11), Bulgaria (3), Ukrainia (3), Italy (2), India (2), Géorgia (1), Germany (1) and Monaco (1).

Six grand masters participated to this first edition: Csaba and Jozsef HORVATH (HUN), Yuri and Andrei VOVK (UKR), Deep SENGUPTA (IND) and Vladimir PETKOV (BGL). Ten international masters were also invited. The winner of the main tournament, with 7.5/9, is the Indian IGM Deep Sengupta, who won at the last round against the hungarian IGM J.Horvath. The two IGM Yuri Vovk and V.Petkov finish second wih 7/9, followed by 10 players with 6/9. Further information on the official web site http://promoechecs.free.fr/
