Tuesday, 13 July 2010 22:03
The 2nd International Open Chess Tournament Rethymno started on 13th July with 182 players from 29 countries taking participation. Nine rounds of swiss system will be played with time control of 90 min for 40 moves + 30min + 30sec per move from the first move.

20 Grandmasters and two Woman Grandmasters are forming an incredibly strong field. GM Gabriel Sargissian of Armenia is top rated while second seed is GM Maxim Turov of Russia, who already arrived to Crete after winning the Heart of Finland open.

The first round started without major upsets except that FIDE-unrated Greek player Athanasios Serntedakis held GM Evgeny Vorobiov to a draw.
