The
Heart of Finland, which is the biggest annual chess event in Finland, was held from 5th to 11th July 2010, in Jyväskylä. The competition is organised by the chess club Jyväs-Shakki and this year's event was even more special than the previous editions - the tournament celebrated its 20th anniversary!
114 players took part in the 9-round open tournament. GM Maxim Turov continues a string of good results, after winning Chennai Open and Eforie Nord, and shares first place with a total of seven points. Also on the shared first place are Finnish top chess star GM Tomi Nyback and the most pleasant surprise FM Tommi Luukkonen, who played nice attacking games. (Full standings bellow)
IM Irina Turova earned the best woman prize, edging WGM Anna Rudolf on better rating performance, but Rudolf was higher placed according to Buchholz and took the 8th prize.
Other results of note are the best 'young player' prize for the 12-year-old Holm Kristian Stuvik from Norway. He lost only to GM Novik and played all his games in a very convincing way. Another nice surprise was the play of Finnish junior Ahvenjärvi Jani, who took a rating prize (U2100) and gained around 50 rating points.
