The 3rd Magistral Ciudad de Asunción "Copa Roggio" chess tournament was held from May 19th to May 29th in Asunción, Paraguay. Ten players competed in each of the two main Groups, with round-robin pairing system. The playing venue was La Pergola Garden Restaurant.

GM Eduardas Rozentalis justified his status of the top-seed in Copa Roggio A Group and won the tournament by collecting 7.0 points from nine games. In the final round Rozentalis drew Bolivian GM Oswaldo Zambrana.

The only challenger for the winners's trophy, GM Ivan Morovic, split the point with GM Andres Rodriguez and remained second, half a point behind the winner. IM Nahuel Diaz Hollemaert from Argentina can be very pleased with his performance as third spot also brought him a GM norm.

The living legend GM Oscar Panno hosted a lecture and Q & A session at the Centennial Club. Panno was Junior World Champion, former World Championship Candidate, and member of the strongest team of Argentina, when the South American country took silver medals in three Chess Olympiads, in the 50's.
