Open Tournaments in Malakoff and Bar Print

The 9th International Open de Malakoff is being held on 17-24th Apil, 2010 in the city of Malakoff, France. The tournament will be played in nine rounds, with Fischer time control - 90 min/40 moves then 30 min for the rest of the game with an increment of 30 sec/move (from the beginning).

Tournament organizers will take into account the disturbances created by the closure of airports and train strikes.

190 players have joined the tournament which offers 1.500 EUR for the first prize. Top rated are: GM Alberto David (LUX 2616), GM Vladimir Malaniuk (UKR 2582), GM Matthieu Cornette (FRA 2552), GM Farid Abbasov (AZE 2549), GM Alexander Zubarev (UKR 2536), GM Namig Guliyev (AZE 2516), IM Deep Sengupta (IND 2496), IM Krikor Sevag Mekhitarian (BRA 2490), GM Andre Diamant (BRA 2486), GM Aleksandr Karpatchev (RUS 2483), IM Kamran Shirazi (FRA 2457) etc.

bar-openThe International open chess tournament "Bar 2010" has started yesterday at the Hotel "Princess" in Bar, Montenegro. The tournament will be played until 24th of April over nine rounds according to Swiss pairing system, the results will be valid for Balkan Grand Prix.

The total prize fund is 9100 EUR, with 7.750 EUR reserved for main prizes and 600 EUR for the blitz tournament. 64 players are taking participation. GM Sergey Fedorchuk was announced as top seed but he didn't show up for the first round, thus highest rated player is GM Vladimir Georgiev of FYROM.

There were few upsets in the first round, notably Milos Pecurica (2027) defeated the experienced GM Dusan Rajkovic, while Franc Ashiku (2064) and Veselin Mrvaljevic (1998) took draws off from Grandmasters Bosko Abramovic and Miroslav Tosic respectively.
