GM Hou Yifan increasing lead at the KL Open Print

The wonder-girl from China, GM Hou Yifan, who was the sole leader at the end of round seven, now has pulled away from rest of the field with a 1-point margin in the eight and penultimate round with a splendid win against GM Dzhumaev Marat and, barring some major mishap, is all set to win the 3rd KL Open Chess Tournament 2010, pocket the 1st prize of RM 10000 and the glittering DYTM Raja Nazrin Shah Trophy.

Trailing Yifan is a group of six players with a score of 6/8; top seed GM Mchedlishvili Mikheil, GM Megaranto Susanto, GM Nguyen Anh Dung, GM Iuldashev Saidali, GM Irwanto Saidikin and GM Murshed Niaz. A further group of 14-players are jointly on the 3rd place with a score of 5½/8.

The notable result of this round was the performance of lowly rated Vakhidov Jahongir, who held IM Swapnil Dhopade of India to a draw and is now occupying the 3rd place jointly.

This 9-round event, which is being organized by the Kuala Lumpur Chess Association at the Olympic Sports Hotel in support of the Malaysian Intellect Development Foundation & Masterskill University College of Health Sciences concludes Monday on 12th April 2010.
