Wednesday, 14 April 2010 00:00
dubaiA record 154 players took part in the 9 round Swiss including 36 GMs, 17 IMs, 9 WGMs, 6 WIMs and 11 FMs, attracted by the $45,000 total cash prize. The top prize of $8,000 enticed 13 GMs rated 2600+ to come to Dubai. And it was a first timer in Dubai, from Latin America who won this year. Venezuelan GM Eduardo Iturrizaga won with 7 points, prevailing in the tie break among nine tied GMs.

The implementation of the no draw offers before 30 moves has minimized the number of friendly draws. This year there were more fighting games until the last round.
