NEW YORK, NY -The 44th edition of the Greater NY Scholastic Championships was held on the weekend of January 30th - 31st, drawing over 900 entries. The tournament was hosted and sponsored by Kasparov Chess Foundation in association with the Chess Center of New York.

The event was held at the New Yorker Hotel in midtown Manhattan, the venue for the past six years. The Greater NY Scholastics is divided into 13 sections, featuring players K - 12.

A highlight of this year's tournament was an appearance by legendary champion Garry Kasparov, who observed games and provided plenty of encouragement to the young players. Mr. Kasparov also took part in his book signing and to answer students questions.

Special thanks go to Steve Immit and Sophia Rohde for directing the tournament. A complete review of individual and team results can be found at www.chesscenter.cc
