Romesh wins 3rd Colombo International Chess Festival 2010 |

Romesh Weerawardena, the top seed won 3rd Colombo International Chess Festival, the International rating tournament after a close battle. RS Kalugampitiya and PMAB Athukorala also tied with him with 7 ½ points out of 9 games. The 3rd Colombo Chess festival conducted by the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka and organized by passed pawn Chess club was held from 28th January to 1st February 2010 at university of Colombo.
There were 21 foreign participants, 20 Indian Players and a Maldivian among the total participants of 180 players. Romesh, Kalugampitiya and Atukorala bags Rs. 23,666/= each after sharing the prizes. A total of Rs. 200,000/- worth cash and other awards were distributed at the prize distribution which was held with the presence of Mr. Luxman Wijesuriya, the Chairman of the Organizing Committee and the Secretary of the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka.
Mithali Patil, a women FIDE Master from India won the best women prize on the tie breaker after tying with Sachini Ranasinghe, the Sri Lankan Women's National Chess Champion and Pramodya Senanayake, WFM.
