IM Melia Salome Wins Georgian Women's Championship Print

The 67th Georgian Women's Championship took place from 9th until 22nd January in Tbilisi. The country is regularly competing for the medals at the big competitions and is currently holding team gold from the 2008 Dresden Chess Olympiad. Naturally, a strong field was lined for the national Championship.

IM Melia Salome, formerly twice European U18 Champion, maintained the margin ahead of the storming IM Nino Khurtsidze and won the title of the Georgian champion. Khurtsidze is second with 9.5 points, while IM Maia Lomineishvili took third after a strong finish.

Top-seeded GM Nana Dzagnidze and WIM Inga Khurtsilava withdrew from the last three and four rounds, respectively.
