| 5th Asian Schools Starts in Colombo |

The 5th Asian Schools Chess Championships 2009 has started in Colombo, Sri Lanka with the participation of six Asian countries in age groups under-7, 9, 11, 13 and 15. A record total number of 180 players from six countries, namely India, Iran, Australia, Malaysia and Yemen with the host, Sri Lanka are participating in this event. See chess-results.com for pairings and results.The tournament is sponsored by the 5-star Ceylon Continental Hotel of Sri Lanka and admired by all participants for the high level of hospitality offered to the participants. Asian Chess Federation Deputy President Casto Abundo and Mr. Upali Gunasekera, the President of the Schools Chess Association and the Principal of Royal College, the leading school in Sri Lanka, inaugurated the tournament organized by the Sri Lanka Chess Federation. The event will continue till 22nd of December 2009 and Mrs. Shiranthi Rajapakse, the first Lady of the Country, is expected to be the Chief Guest.
