The 22nd International Open "Belgrade Trophy" took place from 24th November - 2nd December in Obrenovac, 40km west from Belgrade, Serbia. The traditionally massive event gathered 212 players from 15 countries to compete over nine rounds with Swiss pairing system for the prize fund of 6850 EUR. Eighteen Grandmasters entered the competition and top-seeded was GM Mihajlo Stojanovic.
The Polish Grandmaster Marcin Dziuba won against the Spanish GM Luis Arizmendi Martinez in the final ninth round and emerged as the tournament sole winner, having collected 7.5 points. The Romanian IM Gergely-Andras-Gyula Szabo, who was joint leader for most of the event, could not achieve more than a draw against the experienced GM Aleksa Strikovic, and finished on the shared 2nd place, together with six other players. After the main rated tournament, the Belgrade blitz championship will be held on Thursday, 3rd of December, at the same venue.
