The 69th Italian Chess Championship is being held 23rd November - 4th December, in Sarre, Aosta Valley, Italy. The tournament is in round-robin format with twelve players and total prize fund is 14.000 EUR. The defending champion Fabiano Caruana is currently busy playing at the World Cup in Khanty-Mansiysk, but four other Grandmasters are participating in the championship.

GMs Lexy Ortega and Michele Godena appear to be in the race for the first place, having both won two consecutive games in rounds six and seven. IM Carlo D'Amore is close to the top as well. Half of the field are juniors under the age of 20, which is quite impressive for a national event.
