The Italian Chess Championship is running in Sarre Print

The Italian Championship is running in Sarre (Aosta Valley), Hotel Etoile du Nord (start on November 23th, last round on December 4th, free day - November 29th).

A very interesting thing is that for the firts time in the history of the tournament there are 4 GMs but the most important news is that - also for the first time - 6 of the 12 players are Under 20!

For Italy it is really a great event!

The Assessor (tourism, sport, commerce and transports) of Regione Val d'Aosta - Aurelio Marguerettaz - making the first move to inaugurate the Italian Championship, in the game Michele Godena- Andrea Stella.

4. FM Axel Rombaldoni (17 years old)

9. GM Daniele Vocaturo (20 years old)

11. IM Denis Rombaldoni (20 years old)
12. FM Andrea Stella (16 years old, the youngest)

GM norm: 8 points (for Stella and Valsecchi 7.5; for this two young players the IM norm is at 5.5. Please note that Axel Rombaldoni and Daniele Genocchio already got their IM norms)
Time: 100 min x 40 moves + 50 min x 20 moves + 15 min + 30 sec/move from first move

The President of the Italian Chess Federation, Mr Gianpietro Pagnoncelli, will attend the ceremony of giving of prizes on Dec 4th.

Another great news is that the young Italian GM Daniele Vocaturo (20 years old) has been invited to play the C group of Corus Tournament in Wijk aan Zee 2010. So Italy will have 2 players (!!) in Corus 2010, it is to say GM Fabiano Caruana in group A and GM Daniele Vocaturo in group C.
