The Tournament dedicated to the International Day of Chess Print

Each year on July 20 the International Day of chess is celebrated all over the world. Chess - the only sport that has its own holiday. The Celebration day was approved by FIDE in 1966.

On 19 July this year within the framework of the action "Traditional Chess" the tournament dedicated to the International Day of chess was organized by the Kalmyk Chess Federation in collaboration with the Elista branch of the All-Russia party "United Russia".

The annual competitions were raised to new levels: 229 participants fought at the chessboards. That is an absolute record for national competitions in the Republic! Moreover, the tournament was held in the heart of Elista - in the cultural complex «Pagoda of seven days».

The tournament was divided into 4 categories: master, mass, children's tournament and veterans' tournament. The composition of participants was various, among them were Grandmasters, International Masters, FIDE masters, the young champion of Russia among the girls under 10 Dinara Dordzhieva and the guests from the Southern Federal District. The most senior participant was Alexei Bembeev, 82 years old, but the youngest one was only 6 years old!

As a result, George Pilavov obtained 7 points out of eight and won among the masters, the second place took GM Baira Kovanova. In the veterans' tournament there were no surprises - the strongest with a hundred-percent result was Badma Mantsynov, a multiple champion of Kalmyk Republic. In the mass and children's tournaments Anatoly Egorov and Badmaev Ice won respectively.
