Sri Lanka Women's National Chess Championship 2009
The Sri Lanka National Chess Championship and the Women's National Chess Championship 2009 is scheduled to be held on 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 12th, 13th and 14th of June 2009 at the CETRAC Seminar Room, Pelawatte Battaramulla. The first round will start at 2.00 p.m. on Friday, the 5th of June 2009. The tournament which will be a 13 round, round - robin event has one game on the 5th and two games each on all other days.
This is going to be the best National chess Championship we had ever in all areas. The Sri Lanka Telecom Ltd. has come forward to sponsor this most prestigious Chess event in Sri Lanka. A total of 150,000/= cash award is offered for the National and Women's Championships Cycles this year.
Athula Russell, the reigning National Chess Champion is directly qualified while GC Anuruddha, Luxman Wijesuriya, Prasanna kurukulasuriya, Dulan Edirisinghe, Rajeendra Kalugampitiya, Thiwanka Mallawarachchi, Shamine De Moraes, Isuru Alahakoon, Gayan Peiris, Oshadhi Kottahachchi, Chandana Wijekoon, Mihiranga Jayawardena and Lahiru Hapuarachchi has Qualified from the National B Chess Championship held in last month for the Sri Lanka National Chess Championship. .
Supeshala Thilakawardena gets a direct entry to the Women's Nationals because she is a Women FIDE Master. Since the reigning Women's National Chess Champion, Vineetha Wijesuriya is away from the Country, 13 players, Samasha Undupitiya, Sachini Ranasinghe, Irindu Basnayake, Dinushki Premanath, Lakshika Wanasinghe, Lihini Walallawita, Jeewanthi Rathnayake, Samanthi Wettasinghe, Naduni Abeywardena, Navodya Selvaratnam, Dilshani Ranasinghe, Tiumi Yashora and Yashmi Lamawansa were selected from the Women's National B Chess Championship for the Women's Nationals..
The awarding Ceremony will be held on 14th June 2009 at CETRAC Auditorium at 5.30 p.m. Hon. Dr. Rajitha Senaratne, The minister of Construction and Engineering Services, the President CFSL and The Chair Person, Sri Lanka Telecom Ltd. will be Joint Chief Guests.
