The traditional annual International Tournament for the Disabled was held in Chisinau from 10th to 18th of April. And again the sevenfold champion of Moldova IM Boris Nevednichy became a winner of the competition among men. This tournament is held in Chisinau on the initiative of FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov since 1998. More than 40 players took part in the tournament, among them - International Masters Victor Romcovici, Boris Nevednichy, disabled – Victor Panush, Herman Mynzat, Victor Geru, Dmitry Stoyanov and many others. The newspaper “Nezavisimaya Moldova” supported the initiative of the national chess federation and established six cash prizes for winners of tournament. After the tense and exciting struggle the first and second places were shared between IM Boris Nevednichy, trainer-teacher of Chess CYSC № 7, and Viorel Postolachi, pupil of the same school. They obtained 7.5 points out of nine possible. To determine the winner the judges had to calculate the rate of both players. IM Boris Nevednichy had the best one and was named as the winner of the tournament. The third place took IM Victor Romcovici, the Director of Chess CYSC № 7, who obtained 6.5 points.
The General Secretary of Chess Federation of Moldova Feodor Skripchenko awarded Boris Nevednichy with the main prize of the “Nezavisimaya Moldova” and the Challenge Cup.
Among the disabled: the first place - IM Victor Panush (4.5 points), second place - Victor Geru (4 points), and the third place - Dmitry Stoyanov (4 points). All three winners were awarded with cash prizes; in addition, charitable cash prizes were awarded to all disabled participants, regardless of their place. The winners on behalf of all participants of the tournament thanked the Chess and Drafts Club and Chess Federation of Moldova and the newspaper "Nezavisimaya Moldova" for well organized and hosted tournament where the rising generation of chess players proved by their play that the day when they will rank among the winners is not far.
