Participation/Eligibility

The Commonwealth Championships 2009 will be one tournament combining Open, Women, Open (U-20) and Girls (U-20), and each Commonwealth nation is entitled to one official entry in each of these categories.

In addition, U-16, U-14, U12, U-10, and U-8 championship medals (Gold, Silver and Bronze) for both Open and Girls will also be awarded.

All official entries will be provided full board and lodging. Additional entries will have to pay entry fees as per the schedule and stay in official hotels (inclusive of meals) at the rates provided below:

Regulations:

The Masterskill Commonwealth Chess Championships will be played over 9 rounds, and the FIDE Swiss System will be used (as paired using Swiss Manager), and the FIDE Laws of Chess will apply.

Prizes will be shared with those finishing on equal points and the tie break system to be used to determine the final positions will be announced before the start of play.

Zero start will be strictly observed and the time control will be 90 minutes for the whole game with 30 second time increments beginning from the first move.

Do note that all entries will need to be completed (see attached form below) and submitted together with a deposit of USD 100 and will close on 1 June 2009.

Late entries will only be accepted at the discretion of the organizers as hotels cannot be guaranteed and will also be subject to a USD 100 penalty

Mr. Ignatius Leong, President of the Commonwealth Chess Association, will appoint the Chief Arbiter

He (or his representative) will also sit on the Appeals Committee which will be chaired by Mr. D.V. Sundar, and the Tournament Director will be the third member. Two reserves will be appointed from amongst the official participants.
