The six International youth tournament "Young Stars of the World" in memory Vanya Somov was held in Kirishi, Russia from 15 to 28 November 2008. The Tournament took place in the Palace of the Culture. Among the participants there were International masters Lintchevski Daniil, Shimanov Aleksandr (both from Russia), Swiercz Dariusz (Poland), Zherebukh Yaroslav (Ukraine), FIDE Master Giri Anish , Fedoseev Vladimir , Bukavshin Ivan (all the three from Russia). And Nazi Paikidze (Georgia), Ganichev Alexander (Kirishi, Russia), Aghasaryan Robert (Armenia), Kovalev Vladislav (Belorussia) and Firat Burak (Turkey) as well.
Blitz tournament "Gennady Nesis's Cup" took place in the Palace of the Culture "KINEF" within the framework of traditional competitions "Young Stars of the World" in memory Vanya Somov. Sixteen chessplayers played round robin of six prizes. There are six Grandmasters, seven International Masters and three master candidates. The former champions of Russia Konstantin Sakaev and Eugenie Alekseev, as well as Maxim Novik arrived specially from Petersburg. Grandmasters Sergei Yanovsky (Moscow), Valery Popov and Arman Pashikian (Armenia) were with their own pupil during the main competition. A lot of kind words was told to address of Gennady Nesis, awarded trainer of Russia, International Grandmaster of the ICCF, world vice-champion of the ICCF, Awarded sports master and FIDE Senior Trainer by his friends, which connected many years of chess cooperation.
The winner of the tournament was declared Shimanov, Alexander. Our congratulation to him! Second place took Zherebukh, Yaroslav, the third one - Giri, Anish.
