EUROPEAN CLUB CUP 2008
PRESS RELEASE – 16/09/2008 – 30 days to go...

Dear Chess friends,

Here is all the latest news about the European Club Cup 2008:

A SPECIAL PRIZE FOR THE CHAMPIONS

A unique and valuable prize is waiting for the European Club Champions (open and women) See attached file.

The European Club Cup 2008 1st Prize is designed by the artist Nicolas Sphicas. The handmade cup is made by the artist Vasilis Vardaxis. Sphicas was inspired by the Kalathos, a pot type from ancient Greece. Kalathos is an open, deep, calyx-shaped pot with certain characteristics and probably also used as a krater. It's rare and the majority of the examples date mainly to the 2nd century B.C. Sphicas replaced the usual ancient decoration with leaves (called "West Slope") with one of his paintings, the "Nocturnal Spectator".

Miniatures of these cups will be awarded also and to the 10 individual boards' winners.

Also find attached the design for the event posters (example 1, example 2) inspired from Nicolas Sphicas paintings.
