terry chua-web.jpgSingapore emerged overall champions on the back of sterling individual and team performances with a tally of 9 gold, 8 silver and 9 bronze medals.

NUS High’s Terry Chua in the Open U-17 and Daniel Chan of ACS Independent in the Open U-15 are Singapore’s newest World Chess Champions, and the team medals won in the Open U-17, Open U-15, Girls U-13 and Open & Girls U-9, and Open & Girls U-7 auger well for the prospects for our young talents.

Mr Teo Ser Luck, Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports, gave away the prizes.

The 10-day championships, organised by Singapore Chess Federation and co-hosted by Teck Ghee Community Club, ended today with the departure of all foreign players and delegates.
