Since July, 26 till August, 3 the VI traditional women's chess supertournament "North Urals Cup - 2008" will be held in Krasnoturinsk (Sverdlovsk region), Russia under the patronage of the Governor of Sverdlovsk region E. Rossel.
The organizers of the competition are the Vice-president of FIDE, Honorary President of the Russian Chess Federation Andrey Selivanov and the President of Sverdlovsk Chess Federation Anatoly Sysoev. The sponsors of the tournament are Bogoslovsky brickmaking plant, LLC "StroyBaz", industrial trade centre "YASA" LLC "Centre of Informational Technologies" with the support of Bogoslovsky Aluminium Smelter.
On the 26th of July eight strongest chess players of the world will arrive in Krasnoturinsk for the participation in the tournament "North Urals Cup - 2008" The tournament will be of the record 19 category with the average rating of participants 2520.
The participants of the tournament are current world champion, the participant with the highest rating and the winner of "North Urals Cup - 2005" Xu Yuhua (China), Humpy Koneru (India), world champion 2004 Antoaneta Stefanova (Bulgaria), Europe champion 2003 Pia Cramling (Sweden), three-time Europe youth champion Marie Sebag (France), the winner of "Moscow – Open 2008" Anna Muzychuk (Slovenia), bronze medalist of Europe Championship 2008 Anna Ushenina (Ukraine), Europe youth champion 2003 Natalya Pogonina (Russia).
All games will be in live broadcasting on the official web site of the tournament (www.northuralscup.ru) and it will be possible to follow the games from any place of the world.
The competition will take place on the stage of the Palace of culture of Bogoslovsky Aluminium Smelter. The opening ceremony will be at 17.00 on the July, 26. On the July, 27 there will be the 1 round. Every round starts at 15.00. The day off is on the July, 31. On the last competition day (August, 3) the games will begin at 11.00 and the closing ceremony will take place at 18.00.
The prize fund of the tournament is 15 000 US dollars. The Chief Arbiter will be the International Arbiter Ashot Vardapetyan (Armenia).
It is also worth mentioning that the next women's world championship will be already in August-September 2008 and a lot of experts think that chess admirers will see the future world champion in the tournament in Krasnoturinsk.
