Commonwealth Chess Championship 2008

INVITATION

On behalf of the Commonwealth Chess Association and FIDE, the All India Chess Federation cordially invites All National Chess Federations affiliated to the Commonwealth Chess Association to participate in the Commonwealth Chess Championship scheduled to be held at "Naivedyam Hall" Nagpur (Maharashtra) India, from 27 September to 6 October 2008.

The Commonwealth Chess Championship is open to the citizens of all Commonwealth Countries and to those who had been residents in the Commonwealth Countries during the preceding five years.

PRIZE FUND is 22 000 USD.

MEDALS

Gold, Silver and Bronze medals and titles will be awarded in the following categories of the Commonwealth Championship:

Men, Women, Boys U-20, Girls U-20, Boys U-18, Girls U-18, Boys U-16, Girls U-16, Boys U-14, Girls U-14, Boys U-12, Girls U-12, Boys U-10, Girls U-10, Boys U-8, Girls U-8 and Veteran.

Players opting for Age Group Medals will have to specify the age group under which they would like the medal, before the start of the event.

  • Age wherever referred to relates to the ages as on 1 January 2008.
  • No players will be eligible for more than one cash prize or for more than one medal.
  • Cash Prizes will be shared among the tied players.
  • All payments to the participants will be subject to the Income Tax Rules of India.

APPEARANCE MONEY

Appearance money to GMs (WGMs).
(Players accepting the appearance money are obliged to play through out the tournament)

ENTRY FEE
GMs, WGMs and IMs (with FIDE rating 2500+),
WIMs (with FIDE rating 2280+) : Free
Players with FIDE rating 2400+ : Rs. 1 500
Players with FIDE rating 2350-2399 : Rs. 5 000
Players with FIDE rating 2300-2349 : Rs. 10 000
Players with FIDE rating 2200-2299 : Rs. 15 000
Players with FIDE rating 2001-2199 : Rs. 20 000
Unrated and below FIDE rating 2000 : Rs. 25 000

Each Commonwealth Country is eligible to field one official entry in the following categories: Men, Women and one boy and a girl in U-20, 18, 16, 14, 12, 10 and 8 categories. Their boarding and lodging will be provided free.

  • Entries will be closed on 28 August 2008.
  • Late entries will be accepted till 15 September 2008 with a late fee of Rs. 2 500.
  • Entry shall be submitted in the Official Entry Form appended.
  • Entry fee once paid will not be refundable.
  • Travelling Expenses shall be borne by the participants.

Indian players must pay in Indian Currency by Demand Draft favouring Nagpur District Chess Association, payable at Nagpur at the time of submitting their entries.

Registration: All foreign players and accompanying persons will have to pay registration fee of 100 Euros per head. This will include their transportation from airport and back.

AICF Registration: AICF Registration for 2008-09 is compulsory for all the Indian participants. The registration fee of Rs. 250 will be accepted at the venue for the convenience of the players,


The Organizers reserve the right to reject any entry. In such cases the entry fee will be refunded. The Organizers also reserves the right to change the Rules and Rounds of the tournament before the start of tournament.

BOARD AND LODGING

Board and Lodging will be free for all GMs/WGMs and for one official player each under Men and Women Section, one boy and girl of all the ages groups from Affiliated Commonwealth Federations.

Lodging will be free for all Foreign IM/WIMs and all Indian IMs. Free Accomodation for all other players. However, accompanying persons will have to make their own arrangement, the charges are as under.

3 Star Hotel - Single Occupancy - 60 USD including the Boarding
3 Star Hotel - Double Occupancy - 115 USD including the Boarding
Participants from abroad must make all payments in cash by arrival.

ENTRY VISA

Entry Visa will be issued by the Indian Diplomatic Mission in the respective countries. A letter by All India Chess Fedeartion will be issued.

Participants from the countries which do not have the Indian Diplomatic Mission may contact All India Chess Fedeartion for VISA purpose at least 30 days in advance.

TOURNAMENT REGULATIONS

This will be a Swiss League 11 Round tournament and will be held in accordance with FIDE Regulations. The time limit will be in accordance with latest FIDE regulations.

Participants will be met at Nagpur Airport. All participants may kindly intimate their arrival details sufficiently in advance.
