Both Men and Women European Individual Chess Championships took place in Plovdiv, Bulgaria this year. The dates of the Championships were 20 April - 4 May 2008. The tournament hall was Paris in Novotel Plovdiv. The Championships were 11 rounds, played in Swiss system. The organizer of the event was Bulgarian Chess Federation under the auspices of the European Chess Union.
Close to 500 players participated in one of the major competitions in Europe for 2008. There were 332 participants in the men section and 165 players in the women section.
