GM Levon Aronian of Armenia beat GM Jakovenko of Russia to win clear first in the World Junior Championship in Goa, India. Aronian surprised his opponent with a sacrificial attack in the middle game. Born 6 October 1982 in Yerevan, Aronian now lives in Germany where he studies German and plays professional chess. "I was lucky," he modestly said.
