Singapore, 28 March 2003
Dear Friends,
The SARS attack has caused numerous deaths in the region; China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Vietnam. Several warnings have been issued to citizens outside our region to refrain from coming to countries including Vietnam (and Singapore). The Singapore government has ordered all schools closed and all sporting activities to stop until after the first week of April.
The SARS virus is deadly and spreading like wildfire. Under such circumstances, it would be prudent to postpone the Zonal Championship. I have already spoken to Zone 3.2a President Mr. Dang Tat Thang. The event shall be postponed 20th to 30th June. Mr Dang and the Vietnamese Chess Federation shall advise all federations and re-issue the invitation.
The inconvenience is regretted but let our players be safe than never. Thank you for your understanding.
With Best Wishes
Ignatius Leong

In view of the SARS epidemic in the region, our federation requests a postponement of the Zonal Championships in Vietnam. The situation is very serious. For your follow up action please.
