WGM Irina Slavina won the 53rd Women`s Championship of Russia with 6 points out of 9 rounds in a field of 34 top women players from all over Russia. The 23-year old hails from the Arkhangelsk region in Northern Russia. WGM Tatiana Stepovaia-Dianchenko finished second followed by WGM Julia Demina in third. Attending the closing ceremonies were FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov and Russian Chess Federation officials led by President Alexandr Zhukov, Vice President Valery Zubov and Vice President Valery Bovaev.
