India won 13 medals in Asian Youth Chess |

 India swept 13 medals from a possible 18 in the Asian Youth Chess Championship which concluded at Hotel Asma Tower on Friday. Ravi Teja and J Rajasurya won a gold each as Indians won five of the six gold medals at stake in the Championship. The Indian gold winners were: G Rohit (under-14 boys), Lakshmi Praneetha (under-12 girls) , Lakshmi Sahiti (under-10 girls), J Rajasurya (under-14 girls) and Ravi Teja (under-10 boys.

The five medals that eluded Indians were taken away by Vietnamese. Le quang Liem of Vietnam won the under-12 gold.
In the under-10 boys section there was a big fight in the last round. Ravi Teja beat favourite N Srinath while the two other games were drawn. Ravi Teja emerged champion. For the second place, there was a tie which was broken by toss.
The Asian Youth Chess Championships for Under 10, 12 & 14 Boys and Girls took place in Kozhikode, one of the most charming of Kerala`s beaches in southern India. Opening ceremonies were inaugurated by Mr. O. Rajagopal, Indian Minister of State for Defense and Parliamentary affairs. Dr. John Joseph, President of the All Kerala Chess Association presided over the function. Kerala is the home state of the hyperactive All India Chess Federation Secretary Mr. P.T. Ummer Koya, Fide Vice-President. Games were broadcast live at the official site by the competent AICF staff. |
