SCG: new code for Serbia and Montenegro Print

Since the name of the former Yugoslavia changed to Serbia and Montenegro, the chess federation has since changed its name and logo. On advice received today from the International Olympic Committee, the code has changed to SCG. As explained by FIDE Computer committee chairman Jovan Petronic, the local spelling of the name is: Srbija i Crna Gora or Drzavna Zajednica Srbije i Crne Gore. Since the name of the former Yugoslavia changed to Serbia and Montenegro, the chess federation has since changed its name and logo. On advice received today from the International Olympic Committee, the code has changed to SCG. As explained by FIDE Computer committee chairman Jovan Petronic, the local spelling of the name is: Srbija i Crna Gora or Drzavna Zajednica Srbije i Crne Gore. The pronunciation in English is something like: Srbea & Tsrna Goraah. Our thanks to Mr. Jovan Petronic for the clarification. FIDE follows the codes used by the IOC. Therefore, the code in the FIDE rating list shall be changed accordingly. The IOC advice on 23 July 2003 stated: Subject: OMD Update: Serbie-et-Montenegro / Serbia and Montenegro A compter du 23 juillet 2003 les codes pays pour la Serbie-et-Montenegro sont: CE et SCG. Les codes YU et YUG sont obsoletes et leurs utilisations devraient etre arretees. As of 23 July 2003 the country code elements for Serbia and Montenegro are CS and SCG. The code elements YU and YUG are obsolete now and their use should be phased out.
