IM Fouad El Taher of Egypt and WIM Farida Arouche of Algeria won the blitz chess event in the men`s and women`s divisions, respectively. The Egyptian team has won the gold in the All Africa Games Chess Team Event with a convincing 31.5 points in the 11-team round robin. In the women’s division, Algeria won with 19.5 points. IM Fouad El Taher of Egypt and WIM Farida Arouche of Algeria won the blitz chess event in the men`s and women`s divisions, respectively. The Swiss system events have 9 rounds in the men`s division and 7 rounds in the women`s division. Each participating country is allowed to field three players.
The powerhouse Egyptian team won the gold in the All Africa Games Chess Event with a convincing 31.5 points in the 11-team round robin. Algeria grabbed the silver medal with 28.5 points followed by Zambia with 27 points for bronze. In the women’s division, Algeria won with 19.5 points followed by South Africa with 15 and Nigeria with 7 points. Chess is among 22 sports in the All Africa Games, 4-18 October in Abuja, Nigeria.
