The Cap d`Agde Rapid Chess Tournament is a much awaited event with an interesting mix of big names, promising youngsters and top women players. The crosstables tell part of the story. The elimination of Karpov at an early stage highlights the strength of the field despite their youth. Sixteen players were divided into two groups of eight. After a tie break in Group B, half the field qualified into the 8-player quarterfinals.

Two youngsters survived the round robin preliminaries, quarterfinals and semifinals and Teimour Radjabov of Azerbaijan beat another prodigy, Sergey Karjakin of Ukraine, pocketing 16,000 Euros. Here are the results:
