GM Evgeny Alekseev is the winner of Aeroflot Open 2007 Print

The International Chess Festival "Aeroflot Open 2007" was held 13-23 February 2007 in Moscow, Russia. The official hotel and tournament venue was hotel "Gamma-Delta" belonging to the Tourist Complex "Ismailovo". The festival consists of four tournaments. The total prize fund of the four tournaments is 200 000 USD. GM Dmitry Jakovenko and GM Evgeny Tomashevsky made a draw in the final round and GM Evgeny Alekseev took the chance and won the tournament. The International Chess Festival "Aeroflot Open 2007" was held 13-23 February 2007 in Moscow, Russia. The official hotel and tournament venue was hotel "Gamma-Delta" belonging to the Tourist Complex "Ismailovo". The Organizers of the Festival are the "Aeroflot-Russian Airlines", the Association of Chess Federations and the Russian Chess Federation in cooperation with the Committee on Tourism of the Municipality of Moscow.

The festival consists of four tournaments. Each event is a nine rounds Swiss Tournament. The total prize fund of the four tournaments is 200 000 USD.

GM Dmitry Jakovenko and GM Evgeny Tomashevsky made a draw in the final round. GM Evgeny Alekseev took this chance and became the Winner of Aeroflot Open 2007.


FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov established a special FIDE President`s award - Personal Notebook for the best and beautiful game among young chess players up to 18 years old.

On 13 February in the Hotel Ismailovo the Opening Ceremony of the Aeroflot Open 2007 took place. The FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov attended the Opening Ceremony.



FIDE President made a speech to welcome the participants of the Aeroflot Open 2007.



The Russian Chess Federation Executive Director Mr. Bach welcomes the chess players.



The Ex World Champion Anatoly Karpov came to attend the Opening Ceremony of one of the biggest international festival of chess.



Geurt Gijssen is indispensable Chief Arbiter of the tournament.



Arbiters of this year Aeroflot Open wear one uniform.



Chess players and guests were invited to the banquet after the Opening Ceremony.



The President discusses the chess development with the Ex World Champion Anatoly Karpov and his Assistant Berik Balgabaev.
