Pavlodar Wins Asian Cities Dubai Cup Print

The Pavlodar (KAZ) team won the Asian Cities Team Championship for the Dubai Cup organized by the Iranian Chess Federation from 1 to 8 March 2007 in Tehran, Iran. Eighteen teams from 12 countries competed in the 9-round Swiss. Pavlodar scored 30 points followed by runner-up Tagaytay (PHI) with 26 and Tehran Saipa with 25 points for third. Sheikh Sultan Approves New Performance Rating Board Awards

Asian Chess Federation president Sheikh Sultan bin Khalifah Al Nahyan approved the request of all team captains to institute a new award of medals for best performance rating on individual boards. The system takes into account the strength of the opposition unlike the traditional system of percentage score. The awardees are:

Percentage Score Board Medals
The traditional system of percentage score for board medals originated from when the Olympiads were played as Round Robin groups. The same system was carried over to the Swiss system Olympiads.
