We welcome into the FIDE family the new president of the Thailand Chess Association, Dr. Kantathi Suphamongkhon, former Minister of Foreign Affairs. The former Minister and his wife are chess players and had recently met the legendary Bobby Fischer while they were in Iceland. Dr Kantathi is particularly interested in using chess as a tool to help the development of the youth. He is keen to play a major role to further chess development in Thailand and the region. The dinner meeting took place recently in Bangkok at the invitation of the newly elected President of the Thailand Chess Association, Dr Kantathi, former Minister of Foreign Affairs. The former Minister and his wife are chessplayers and had recently met the legendary Bobby Fischer while they were in Iceland. Dr Kantathi is particularly interested in using chess as a tool to help the development of the youth. He is keen to play a major role to further chess development in Thailand and the region. He has asked General Secretary Ignatius Leong to help develop chess in schools and a training programme in Thailand. Dr Kantathi extended an invitation to the FIDE President to visit Thailand in the coming months. |
