DGT Projects and Share Dimension bundle their chess and multimedia activities
Bunnik, June 14th 2007.
DGT Projects and Share Dimension today announced they agreed to bundle their chess and multimedia activities in a new joint venture, Chess Dimension (www.chessdimension.com). Chess Dimension will be equally-owned by both firms.
DGT Projects, based in Enschede, established a brand name in the chess world through its Digital Game Timers, sensor board and accompanying software. DGT technology is used in international chess events, ranging from top international tournaments via national championships to world championships.
Share Dimension, a Dutch-Romanian ICT firm with its main specialization in financial application software and multimedia solutions, has made itself a name via the sponsorship of Chess Club Groningen. The firm brought in international top players like world champion Kramnik, Ivanchuk, Nisipeanu, Naiditsch and Rublevsky which joined forces with Dutch matadors Tiviakov, Sokolov, Werle and Visser and helped Groningen winning the 2007 Dutch national title.
The creation of the Chess Dimension joint venture will further deepen Share Dimension and DGT`s involvement with the chess world.
Albert Vasse, managing director at DGT Projects, explains that it is especially the synergy that results from combining DGT`s hardware expertise with Share Dimension`s software expertise that led to these joint venture talks. Vasse: "technically, we believe that we can create a much better product together, especially for the growing group of event organizers that want the best for brand-name, world-renowned sponsors".
Share Dimension chairman Erik van Dijk, who is also member of the board of the Royal Dutch Chess Federation, adds: "And it is not just this technical synergy that makes joining forces with DGT worthwhile. The experience we have ourselves in event organization and our level of professionalism in general have not gone unnoticed in the chess world."
Chess Dimension main activities will concentrate on all aspects of professional event organization, including multimedia solutions and player management.
Chess Dimension will focus initially on the global chess world, but the firm doesn`t exclude growth into other, comparable sports entertainment areas.
Share Dimension chairman Van Dijk will play a coordinating role.
Ben Bulsink (DGT`s chief technology officer) and Share Dimension`s Claudiu Tanasescu will be the driving forces behind the Multimedia unit of Chess Dimension. Vasse and Share Dimension`s managing director Gia Betiu, who is currently also the tournament director of the Dutch national chess championship, will play a central role in the other two units.
