The FIDE Presidential Board Meeting in Antalya, Turkey, from 26-28 January 2007 decided to have a Global Training Headquarters. To carry out the Board decision, Global Chess Academy (GCA) was set up. As FIDE Global Training HQ, GCA will focus on chess education through the training, testing and certification of trainers to FIDE`s standards for certified trainers. Thus GCA will help coordinate and conduct seminars, examinations and certification of trainers.

IM Rico Mascarinas of the Philippines shows the private classrooms of the Academy. The Academy has 30 trainers from 12 countries.
Parents enroll their three sons in the Chess Academy. `Chess will help mentally develop my children` the mother told this writer. The Academy, which began in 1998, now boasts close to 500 students and 4,000 pupils in schools ranging in ages 5 to 16 with the majority below 10 years of age.
