 A 15-man delegation from the Guangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee (GAGOC) went to Al Ain, United Arab Emirates, yesterday for a Technical Conference with Asian Chess Federation president Sheikh Sultan bin Khalifah Al Nahyan and other officials. Chinese Ambassador Gao Yusheng was present to welcome the Guangzhou delegation headed by Deputy Director Liang Yong. Guangzhou shall construct a new venue designed for chess tournaments under guidance of the Asian Chess Federation. See photo report.
Guangzhou to Construct New Venue for Chess Competition
A 15-man delegation from the Guangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee (GAGOC) went to Al Ain, UAE, yesterday for a Technical Conference with Asian Chess Federation president Sheikh Sultan bin Khalifah Al Nahyan. Chinese Ambassador Gao Yusheng, in photo, was present to welcome the delegation headed by Deputy Director Liang Yong. Guangzhou shall construct a new building designed for chess tournaments under guidance of the Asian Chess Federation.

A delegation of the Guangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee (GAGOC) visited the Asian Chess Federation in Al Ain yesterday to discuss the requirements for consruction of a new venue for the chess competition in the 16th Asian Games 2010 in Guangzhou, China.
Asian Chess Federation president Sheikh Sultan bin Khalifah Al Nahyan received the 15-man Guangzhou delegation headed by Liang Yong, GAGOC Deputy Director of Venues. The delegation consisted of engineers, municipal planners and other officials of the Guangzhou Municipality.
The Chinese came to learn about the requirements and standards for facilities, technical systems and chess equipment, venue design and layout and study previous venues for chess competitions in the Asian and Southeast Asian Games.
Sheikh Sultan cited the experience of the Asian Chess Federation in organizing chess in the Southeast Asian Games in Ho Chi Minh 2003 and Manila 2005, the Asian Games in Doha 2006 and next month the Asian Indoor Games in Macau.
The Guangzhou engineers presented the plan for the construction of various venues and their uses for the community. Asian Chess Federation Treasurer Mehrdad Pahlevanzadeh presented layouts for chess tournaments, equipment such as electronic chess boards for live Internet broadcasting and photos from previous Games and major chess tournaments.
It was pointed out that the Asian Chess Federation has 41 member countries who are also members of the Olympic Council of Asia and most are expected to send teams to the Asian Games in Guangzhou.
Dr. Liu Chiongquan of Guangzhou delivered their presentation and said they will start construction next year of venues for the various sports. Liang Yong asked the Asian Chess Federation for the standards and guidance in the construction of a new venue for the chess competition in Guangzhou 2010. |
